Participants attend the lectures given to undergraduate
students, having the benefit of hearing Macquarie lecturers without doing the
student assignments or taking the exams! The following courses were available
in first semester 2008 for Continuing Education students at a cost of $160 each
per subject, comprising up to thirty hours of lecture time.
AHST 100 Introduction of Egyptian Archaeology
Wed. 10-12 am or
6-8 pm. Dr C. Köhler, A/Prof. B. Ockinga.
This unit will deal with developments in Ancient Egyptian society from the
Prehistoric Period to the end of the new Kingdom as reflected in the
archaeological record.
AHST 260 Egyptian Hieroglyphics A.
Tues. 10 am - 1 pm
or 6 - 9 pm. Ancient History Staff.
This unit is an introduction to the
hieroglyphic system of writing and the classical ancient Egyptian language
written in this script.
AHST 261 Egyptian Culture and Society.
Thurs. 11 am - 1 pm
or 6 - 8 pm. Dr. C. Köhler.
This unit is a study of Egyptian history and civilisation in the predynastic
and pharaonic periods. In addition to the historical problems, themes covered
will include the development of the state, administration, imperialism,
Iiterature and society..
AHST 364 Egypt in the 18th Dynasty.
Tues. am (tba) or 6
- 9 pm. A/Prof. B. Ockinga
A study of central historical issues of the 18th Dynasty based on an
interpretation of the archaeological record, art and architecture, and the
written sources in the original language.
